WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IF YOUR CHILD HAS TO MISS SCHOOL
- Please phone the school office in the morning to let them know why your child is not coming into school. We follow up absences which have not been notified. When your child comes back to school please send in a dated note to the class teacher.
- Try to arrange dental and other appointments outside school hours but if this is not possible bring your child in before or after the appointment. Please let the school know in advance and book a school lunch if required.
- Good attendance and punctuality are vital for giving your child a good start in life and for establishing good patterns of behaviour. Schools are no longer permitted by law to authorise holidays in term time. You may apply for a leave of absence due to exceptional circumstances eg: bereavement but you must apply to the head teacher in writing ahead of time. If children are taken out of school in term time without authorisation the matter will be reported to the Education Welfare Officer for consideration of a penalty notice. This is currently £60 per child, per parent and increases to £120 if not paid within 28 days. Failure to pay this could result in legal proceedings where you could be fined up to £1,000 and end up with a criminal record. Help and support is always available in school for any difficulties you may have with your child's attendance and punctuality.
- In order for your child to do well in school it is important to attend regularly and punctually. If there are any difficulties relating to attendance for your child please talk to the class teacher or head teacher (contact via the school office.)
